Pauline's Marine Corp Marathon DC AdventureTraining The Goal How may you Help My Honored Patient My Newsletter
The Journey
Pauline is going to try to update her training blog at tippytraining.blogspot.com. There are no guarantees. I am horrible updating blogs, but I also thought I was a horrible runner. Now I've committed to 26.2 miles so let's see if I can update the blog.
The Goal
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training (TNT) program is the world’s largest endurance sports training program, and the leading fundraising campaign of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Nationally, the organization trains people to run or walk a marathon or half marathon, cycle a century ride or complete an Olympic distance triathlon. I had already done the century ride. My next goal was to complete the marathon. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society hosts other fundraising events throughout the year. TNT's primary goal is to raise funds for blood cancer research and patient services. Each participant is responsible for raising a minimum based on his or her chosen event. These minimums are based on keeping the participant costs (training, travel, etc.) at no more than 25 percent of funds raised. Our fundraising goal for the Marine Corp Marathon is $2,800. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society provides all the support we need to successfully complete our fundraising and successfully complete our marathon. A key element of the Team In Training experience is training in honor of a local blood cancer survivor. The survivor's courage provides motivation and inspiration - a partner who faces an even greater challenge and needs your help. Jeremy Fithian served as my honored patient. He is a nine year old little boy who, thankfully, is successfully winning his battle. With funds raised through TNT events, this statistic will be said of all blood cancer patients. The Society dedicates 75% of every dollar spent to support research activities, patient services and education. For more information on The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the Team In Training Program, check out the links below. Join me as I try my hand at an entirely different sport - running. It seems as though I can't train just for me. I have to sign up and commit myself to endurance events. I am training for the Marine Corp. Marathon in Washington, DC on October 25, 2009 with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program. Since the primary purpose of Team in Training is to raise funds to help eradicate blood cancers, it is important that I meet my fundraising goal. I am asking all of my friends and family to help me, once again. This year, however, I have options for people beyond just sending a check or providing credit card information online, although that is appreciated and certainly welcome. Please consider the following:
In addition to my training and fundraising commitments, I have also committed to running in honor of a local blood cancer patient. My patient is Michael Cieslak. Mike was diagnosed with ALL in August of 1992. He enjoys all types of sports especially following the Bills and the Boston Red Sox. He earned his Masters degree in Chemistry from UB in 1999. Mike works out daily at JCC including time on a bike. Mike is a past participant as an Honored Patient in the Team in Training program and he and his family are wonderful supporters of the Society. Please return for more information on Mike. If I have your address, you likely received a copy of my fundraising "newsletter." If you didn't receive a copy or misplaced yours, please click here for another copy. |
