Web sites That Mean Something to Me

The following sites belong to local artisans, local events or local businesses.  Please shop locally.  I recommend all the businesses noted below.  Additionally, you may find many of these artisans at local art and craft shows.  If you can, come out to the shows.  Not only are you supporting local artisans and local events, you will have an enjoyable day.  Also, you may find many vendors have an Etsy site as well as the Web sites noted below.  If these artists are like me, we would rather have you call, email or shop from our official Web sites, but the choice, of course, is yours.

  • Wild Mountain Organics: Partake in the Nurturing Alchemy of Nature If I don't mention my own company first that is just poor, poor marketing and would undermine my credibility as a professor of such.
  • Design A Tea: Where Tea Leaves Go To Dream.  My husband and I met Jen and Brian a few years ago and they have since become very good friends.  They also make the most wonderful tea blends and will custom label for you, which they have done for me.
  • Spices and Mixes by Milly.  Milly is a character, to be sure, and I say that as a compliment.  Her spices and mixes are better than any you will get in any grocery store.  They are also less expensive than you will pay in the grocery store.  Stock up when you see her at shows and farmers markets.
  • Savvy Silver.  Okay, she's in Akron, Ohio which is a tad away from local, but my husband bought some labradorite earrings from her and I wear them often.  Beautiful.
  • Kala Stein Ceramics.  Her work is stunning.  I suggest you check it out.  Very unique.
  • Hip Green Pet.  I met these folks in Rochester at a fundraiser for a humane society in the area.  Wonderful products if you have pets and want environmentally friendly products for your pets.
  • Larry Carlson Studio.  I first saw his pieces in Ithaca, New York.  They are landscape photographs with a digital twist.
  • Heart of Franklinville concrete garden statuary.  I drive by this old Victorian house in Franklinville on my way to St. Bonaventure and often wonder who owns it and what goes on there.  Now I know - concrete statuary and antiques.  Worth a trip.
  • Rue Claire lavender farm.  Located in the Finger Lakes, this lavender farm also sells chocolates and wine.
  • ReCreations by Deborah Florian.  Deb has a "new attitude for your home and gift giving" by making suction window vases, bud vases, wire wrapped rooting vases and personalized/customized designs.  She's also one of the sweetest women you will meet.
  • Predmore Creations.  Interesting glass work and all things Buffalo.
  • American Tomboy.  Fun t-shirts for the tomboy in all of us.
  • Harper Hill Farm Soaps.  My husband and I love the soaps from this farm and use them often.
  • Braddock Bay Gallery.  Dave and Jan paint glass in the most beautiful way possible.  I plan to purchase gorgeous wineglasses for us.

Other Web sites I like:

  • Embrace it Africa
The group I work with on campus.  Microfinance and aid in rural southern Uganda, Africa.
  • Wild Mountain Organics
My company.  Most wonderful all-natural body care products ever!  I know I mentioned it above but it's my Web site.  I will overexpose if I want to.
  • Buffalo Rising
Promoting and supporting Buffalo and the Niagara Region.
  • Equality Now
Provides valuable and sometimes disturbing information about the quest for women's equality worldwide.  Get involved!
  • Ethical Traveler
We all love to travel.  Why not travel as ethically as possible being conscious of your impact on the places of your wanderings.
  • Cooking Light
Damn good food, wonderful magazine, good for you.  Yummy!  My first stop when I am trying to find a recipe.
  • Weight Watchers
Hey, I'm losing weight.  What's not to like!  I would also love to look like Jennifer Hudson.
  • Yoga Journal
    Breath.  Relax.  Do yoga.
  • REI
Wonderful outfitter that provides products and adventure travel.  I used REI Adventures when I went on a wonderful cycle trip in Nova Scotia.  The only way to truly see a place is on a bicycle.
  • The Campaign to Make Poverty History
    Eradicating poverty worldwide.
  • Green Biz - News on Business and the Environment
You can live a green life.  It's not as difficult as you may think.
  • Witches Voice
    Witches everywhere connect.
  • Isis Books and Gifts
Cool store that sells all things cool.  The Tarot card selection is particularly addicting.
  • Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
I have cycled and now I plan to run.  For more information, take a look at what your dollars do.  To donate to my marathon fundraising efforts, please take a look at the page I created for that purpose by clicking here.
